English-Version:
About one month ago, I had my first indoor competition. It was at the same facility as in December ‘18 and a few of us distance runners, had the opportunity to start the indoor season again in Michigan at the GVSU Holiday Opener.
I was not satisfied at all with my performance at the cross-country nationals one week before the 5k race (77th place) but still, I was optimistic for the race. My goal was to go sub 14:20’ but sometimes things don’t happen the way you want them to. Right before the race, I was really motivated. However, after the first few laps I didn’t feel like running anymore because I still had 14 laps to go, 13 laps to go, 12 laps to go… just too many laps. I thought I should drop out until the last 600 meters. But at this point, I had already ran 4,400 meters. I finished another lap and finally, it was the final lap. What can I say? The final lap is the final lap and in a 5k, the final lap must be the fastest lap. So, I tried to run faster, and it worked out. I was able to pass a few other competitors and I finished the race with a similar time as last year. Nonetheless, I was not satisfied with my performance because it still was slower by 0.22 seconds (14:24.38’ < 14:24.60’) and therefore, not sub 14:20’.
But now it’s time to continue training hard and hopefully, better times will come!
